Picking A Time Of Day For Family Photos

Pretty much every photographer on the planet will die of joy if you ask to book a session for “golden hour”.

It’s the hour before sunset where you often have the most stunning, indirect and colorful light of the day.

That being said, the actual best time is when your kiddos aren’t going to be cranky!

If non-cranky kids and golden hour happen to coincide, you are definitely in for a magical time!

It’s good to be aware that booking a photo session for times like high noon will be challenging for your photographer if you’re going to be outdoors.

The light at midday is going to be harsh and super direct so your photos aren’t going to have that special something that evening sunset photos have.

Don't forget to look up when sunset is in your area and season before choosing when to book your session! Here in Northern Alberta, the sun can be fully set before 5pm in the winter, and still out at 10pm in the summer.
