Touch = Connection
We’ve all seen those awkward family photos where everyone is standing like statues and staring at the camera and no one looks like they want to be there.
So how can you go about getting photos that look like everyone at least tolerates each other?
Regardless of the pose that your photographer puts you in, one of the best ways to stay connected is through touch.
When the photographer says to stand next to each other, instead of mom and dad standing shoulder to shoulder with their hands at their sides, angle in towards each other and hold hands.
Never put your kids directly in between you and your partner. Their tiny bodies will make it look like they are pushing you apart.
Instead bring your bodies super extra close so there is zero gap between you, then either hold the kids on your outside hip, or have them stand in front of you.
Older kids can be put to the sides of parents so their heads don’t cover the adults faces, but again, angle their bodies towards the center of the group, and make sure there are no gaps between anyone.
Remember to always keep some sort of touch connection between you and your partner in each pose, unless specifically directed otherwise.
The trick to this is basically to have everyone awkwardly close - whether you’re standing up, sitting down or all doing squats.
Space is the biggest connection killer, so the less space between everyone, the more connection you will create in the photos.
Your photographer will be able to help you with specific poses for your family group and the number / size of your peoples!
