Think I might be the best family photographer for the job?
Let's Taco-bout it!
Family Photography Prices + cost
Family photos come with approximately one hundred billion questions.
How much does it cost? What should we wear? What happens if the children choose chaos? Do we need a perfectly clean house? Will my partner have to stand around smiling for an entire geological era?
Girl, same. There's loads to cover when it comes to family photos, but let's start with a big one: Prices.
Here is everything you need to know about the cost of booking your family photography with me.
How much does family photography cost?
All my packages are based on time. The shorter the time, the smaller the bill. The more the time, the bigger the bill.
Family photography sessions start at $125 + GST.
That gets you a quick little 15 minute mini session when you need a photo or two for the wall, Christmas cards, or to finally give your mother-in-law an updated family photo so she can stop using the one from 2017.
My most popular family photo session is 30 minutes for $250 + GST, with a close second-most-popular package being my 60 minute $500 + GST documentary style session.
What is included in a family photography session?
Every family photo package includes so much more than just someone yelling “everybody smile!” into the wind.
You get:
- Gentle, natural direction and posing during your session, because nobody actually knows what to do with their hands.
- Hand-edited images that still look like you, just on a particularly excellent day.
- An easy-to-use online gallery for viewing, downloading, sharing, and sending to every auntie in the family group chat.
- Personal print rights, so you can turn your photos into wall art, albums, cards, gifts, or a mug featuring your own face. No judgment.
- A photographer who is fully prepared for kid energy, partner reluctance, unpredictable weather, and the fact that family life is not a military operation.
Which family photography package should I choose?
The Mini-est
This is your quick and easy option.
Choose The Mini-est when you just need a few updated photos without making the whole thing A Big Event. It is perfect for holiday cards, milestone updates, or when you need proof that everyone still fits in the same frame.
The Good-est
This is the classic family session.
Choose The Good-est for most immediate families. It gives us enough time to get everyone settled, capture some gorgeous portraits, and work around the standard amount of toddler wiggling, snack requests, and suspiciously sticky hands.
The Most-est
This one is for larger groups and bigger family energy.
Choose The Most-est when grandparents are joining, multiple households are involved, or your group contains enough people that organizing everyone begins to resemble herding cheerful but confused geese.
The Real-est
This is your short documentary-style option.
Choose The Real-est when you want a sweet little glimpse of your actual family life. Less posing, more connection. Think couch cuddles, snack crumbs, favourite toys, bare feet, and your people being their regular ridiculous lovable selves.
The Full-est
This one is for capturing the fuller chapter.
Choose The Full-est when you want to slow down and remember your family exactly as you are right now. The familiar corners of home. The way your kids fit in your arms. The quiet routines, big feelings, and ordinary little moments that will not feel ordinary forever.
What is the difference between a regular family session and a documentary family session?
A regular family session is great when you want a beautiful, relaxed portrait of your family. There is still plenty of laughter and personality, but I will give more direction so we can get everyone together and looking generally toward the camera at the same time. A glorious achievement.
A documentary family session is more about your family life as it naturally unfolds.
We might hang out at home, make pancakes, play in the backyard, build a blanket fort, cuddle on the couch, or simply exist in the gentle circus that is your everyday life. The goal is not perfection. It is remembering what this season felt like.
Do you photograph families at home?
Absolutely.
In-home sessions are especially wonderful for little kids, new babies, families who want a more relaxed experience, or anyone who wants photos that feel deeply personal to this exact chapter of life.
Your house does not need to be spotless. It does not need to look like a catalogue. It does not need to contain one single beige basket.
We only need a few spots with lovely light, the people you love, and enough room for everyone to be themselves.
Where do family photo sessions take place?
I photograph families in St. Albert, Bon Accord, Gibbons, Morinville, Legal, Sturgeon County, Edmonton, and surrounding Alberta communities.
Sessions can happen at home, in your backyard, at a favourite park, along the river valley, by a lake, in the woods, or at a location that feels especially like your family.
Not sure where to go? That is extremely normal. I have location ideas and will help you find a spot that fits your vibe.
What if my kids do not cooperate?
Congratulations, you have children.
Honestly, you do not need to spend the whole week before your session drilling them on how to smile politely, stand still, or become tiny corporate employees with excellent posture.
Kids are allowed to wiggle. They are allowed to be shy. They are allowed to need a snack break, a cuddle, a reset, or a dramatic emotional response to a rogue mosquito.
I build sessions around real humans, especially the tiny ones. We will play, move around, take breaks, and let the session breathe. Some of the best photos happen in the in-between moments anyway.
Do we need matching outfits?
Nope.
You do not need matching jeans and white shirts unless that is genuinely your family’s dream, in which case I fully support your coordinated denim ambitions.
Aim for clothes that feel like you, photograph well together, and let everyone move comfortably. Soft textures, layers, earthy or muted colours, and clothes your kids can run around in tend to work beautifully.
The important part is that nobody feels like they are wearing a costume from someone else’s Pinterest board.
Can grandparents or extended family join our session?
Absolutely.
For extended family photos, I recommend The Most-est so we have enough time to organize larger groupings, photograph grandparents with grandkids, and make sure the little ones do not run out of steam before we get the big family photo.
We start with the larger groups first, then work our way smaller. Tiny children get freed from photo duty as soon as possible because they have very serious toddler business to attend to.
What happens after our session?
After your session, I carefully edit your photos and deliver them in an online gallery that is easy to view, download, share, and print.
You will have personal print rights, which means you can actually enjoy your photos beyond your phone screen. Make the album. Print the big one for the wall. Put one on a mug. Become the family with a tasteful hallway gallery wall. Live your truth.
How do I book a family photography session?
Choose the package that feels right for your family, then hit the Book Online button on the pricing page.
Not sure which option fits? Send me a message with who is coming, what kind of photos you are hoping for, and any tiny chaos variables worth knowing about. I will help you choose the right amount of time.
Ready to make some family photos?
Your family does not need to be perfectly coordinated, perfectly behaved, perfectly rested, or perfectly anything.
You just need to show up as yourselves.
The loud-laughing, slightly sticky, deeply lovable version of yourselves that exists right now. The version you will one day wish you could climb back into for just five more minutes.
